Braces for Seniors
Love Yourself, Love Your Smile
It’s no secret that proper oral care is for people of all ages. Brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings help us avoid cavities and gum disease, maintain vibrant smiles, and prevent serious chronic health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and dementia. As we enter our golden years, maintaining good oral care habits becomes particularly important due to the effects of aging.
Aging naturally causes structural and functional changes in just about every part of our bodies, including our mouths. Our bones become weaker and smaller, our muscles lose strength and flexibility, our gums often recede, and our teeth may shift.
Together, these changes can negatively impact oral health, smile appearance, and general oral functions like eating and speaking. In many cases, poor tooth alignment can negatively affect your appearance and self-confidence as well as create a number of oral health problems, including:
- Complicated oral care routines
- Decreased oral function
- Bone loss

At Beverly Hills Orthodontics, we want all of our patients to be as healthy as possible and have smiles that they’re proud of. That’s why we offer a range of orthodontic treatments to patients of all ages—including braces for seniors. #loveyoursmile
It's Never Too Late to Enhance Your Smile
Although many people associate braces with younger people, orthodontic care has no age limit. In fact, according to the American Association of Orthodontics, 25% of all orthodontic patients are adults.
Although early-age care (~5 years old) is recognized as the gold standard in the world of orthodontics, children and teens aren’t the only ones who benefit from orthodontic care. While younger jaws are often easier to work with, the same orthodontic problems can be corrected in older adults; your treatment plan may use alternate methods due to age differences.
Whether you simply never had an opportunity for orthodontic treatment in earlier years or you’ve experienced shifting later in life, undergoing orthodontic care as a senior can help you achieve your dream smile and boost your oral health. As long as your teeth, jawbones, and gums are in good shape, braces are a viable and effective solution for all sorts of alignment problems.
Braces for Seniors: How Beverly Hills Orthodontics Cares for Older Adults
At BHO, we understand the unique needs of our senior patients and work to provide comprehensive orthodontic care to meet your individual goals. We utilize the most advanced technology to ensure comfortable, effective, and efficient treatment. We can use braces for seniors to correct a range of alignment issues, including:
- Malocclusions (e.g., overbites, underbites, open bites, deep bites, and crossbites)
- Dental crowding
- Smile gaps/spaces between teeth
For more complex issues, such as excessive underbite, overbite, or crossbite, additional measures like extraction and surgery may be incorporated to enable treatment at older ages.
Are Braces Right For You?
People of all ages deserve to have a smile that they’re proud of. After all, your smile is more than just two rows of teeth—it’s how you express your identity to the world. Beyond mere aesthetic improvement, the health benefits of adult orthodontic treatment include:
- Flawless teeth alignment
- Improved oral function (e.g., speaking/pronunciation and swallowing)
- Better oral health at an age of increased risk of tooth loss
- Stronger jawbones
As a top-rated Invisalign provider, we LOVE clear aligners—but we know that they are not right for all of our patients. While some seniors prefer the look and feel of Invisalign, clear aligner treatment is not well-suited for everyone. If senior patients are not able to wear their aligners consistently for ~22 hours each day, have dexterity issues, or struggle with keeping track of their aligners, braces are likely to be the best course of orthodontic treatment.
Still not sure if braces are right for you?
