Before and After Braces

When you think of orthodontic treatment, your brain probably jumps directly to braces. While there are a whole host of other treatment options available now, braces are still a great option for many patients who have misalignments and want a straighter, more functional bite.

Before and After Braces

Below, you will see just a few of our patients who have gotten braces to correct different malocclusions. There are teeth with overbites, underbites, crooked teeth, and too much space between their teeth, and braces can correct them all! The patient began an Invisalign treatment. The patient’s “overbite” was resolved, and they were thrilled with the results and the lack of surgery needed to achieve them.

Patient 1

Patient 1 presented with a pronounced forward jaw protrusion, resulting in the lower jaw and teeth overlapping the upper teeth. To address these issues, the BHO team initiated a treatment plan with traditional braces. We paired her braces with elastic bands to gradually realign her teeth, guiding them backward.

Patient 2

This patient came to us after a referral to an oral surgeon. When they decided surgical correction of a conventional overbite was not possible due to the proximity of the roots to the nerves, she opted for a treatment plan with conventional braces and rubber bands. With the patient’s diligence and compliance in wearing her elastics, her overbite was significantly reduced and her teeth were able to be straightened without surgery.

Patient 3

Patient 3 came to our office looking to straighten her crowded and proclined teeth. She had previously had orthodontic treatment, but over time her teeth had shifted back and relapsed into their old position. We got her set up with a new treatment plan and into braces to correct the facial flare of her teeth. She now has a smile she loves and a new permanent lingual retainer to keep her teeth in position for good.

Patient 4

This patient came to us because she wanted to fix her overlapped and crooked teeth. Her treatment consisted of bonded braces with frictionless brackets. Frictionless brackets hold the archwire in place using a slide mechanism without the typical colorful ties. She also used elastics to help gently pull her jaws into the correct position. 

After wearing braces to get her teeth into proper alignment, she now wears Viveras Invisalign retainers to keep her teeth in the right positions.

Patient 5

Patient 5 came to us because she didn’t like the black triangles between her teeth or how her teeth proclined (tilted outward). After treatment, her teeth are closer together and straighter. She also wanted to whiten her teeth after orthodontics, so we sent her home with a whitening kit to finish perfecting her brand-new smile.

What Are Braces?

Dental braces are orthodontic devices used to correct misaligned teeth and bite issues. Braces apply continuous gentle pressure to the teeth, gradually moving them into the desired position over time. Braces can be used to address a variety of orthodontic problems, including crowded teeth, spacing issues, overbites, underbites, and crossbites.

Key components of dental braces include:

  • Brackets
    • Brackets are small, square-shaped devices that are attached to the front surface of each tooth using dental bond or cement and act as anchors for the archwire.

  • Archwire
    • A thin metal wire that connects the brackets to exert gentle, constant pressure on the teeth. The archwire is periodically adjusted during treatment to adjust the pressure.

  • Anchor Bands
    • Metal rings cemented around the molars which act as an attachment and additional support for the braces.

  • Elastic Bands
    • Used as an adjunct with braces to correct specific bite issues. Elastics connect brackets on the top and bottom teeth to apply additional pressure on the jaws.
